Which Disney Princess are You?

I'm the mother of a 3 year old girl, so my life is hopelessly inundated with fairy tales and clever, opinionated, somewhat feminist princesses who inevitably find themselves in trouble.

One day, when I was watching The Little Mermaid for the 423rd time in my life and thinking that my eyeballs might fall out of their sockets if they had to be glued to a swarm of merry dancing sea creatures for even one more second, a thought entered my mind.

I thought, how would these fairy tales have ended up if the plots had been about the princesses discovering the raw vegan diet?

It was an interesting concept to me since all these princesses seemed to have one thing in common - they all wanted the prince, I mean, success on the diet and health in the long term.

Here are the thoughts that kept me entertained for the rest of the movie and saved my eyeballs from permanent damage.

Cinderella
Cinderella was a very earnest princess. When she found out about the raw diet, she immediately knew it was for her. She tried and tried and tried even though her evil stepmother and ugly stepsisters judged her and sabotaged her efforts when they found out her desires.

Happily, Cinderella was strong of heart and decided that her health was more important to her than keeping others happy. She eventually broke off ties with the people who were making her life miserable and successfully hooked up with a fruitarian prince, and lived happily ever after in a castle with huge organic orchards in the surrounding lands.

Aurora/Sleeping Beauty
Aurora was pretty happy with her life. She was a young beautiful girl who had everything going for her. Somebody at court told her about the raw diet once, but she was in the pink of health and didn't really want to hear about it at the time.

Then one day, an evil witch cast a spell on her and made her very sick, like for a zillion years. While sick, she vaguely remembered someone telling her about raw diets and curing sickness, but she had a hard time conceiving that changing her lifestyle could actually be the answer.

About a hundred years later, a handsome raw vegan athlete prince guy came to town and they met. She was quite taken with him and the stuff he said made sense. He taught her the principles of health and nutrition, and she realized that she was truly sick and tired of being sick and tired. She finally decided to take the plunge and her health was restored. They got married and lived happily ever after.

Belle/Beauty and the Beast.
Belle was one pretty feisty gal. When she first encountered the fruitarian diet, she was in shock at how crazy it sounded. She quickly recovered from the shock though, and decided to set out to prove it dead wrong.

So she argued about it, digging up all the research she could find. She struggled and grappled with the issues that come with this diet constantly, and was vehemently antagonistic about it toward anyone who tried to talk to her about it.

One day, she came to the realization that the reason she'd been fighting it all long, was because she was afraid of embracing it. And it dawned on her that she was slowly falling in love with the idea itself. So from that day on she worked on throwing off her armor off and made a gradual transition to the lifestyle. She lived happily ever after.

Ariel/Little Mermaid
Ariel was born curiouser than cat. Growing up, her family never, ever served her fruit...only seaweed and fish and stuff like that. But one day she realized that there was a whole new world out there, one where people not only walked on 2 legs, they also ate fruit. She gradually became very drawn to that world and tried to learn all she could about it.

Her family was furious with her and made it very difficult for her to pursue her new interests, but she persisted. Finally, one day, she just decided to do it. She had to be sneaky about it, but she succeeded in transitioning to this new lifestyle under the radar.

She had some horrendous detox issues along the way. She got sick, lost her voice and her tail too. However, she knew what her goal was in the end and nothing was going to deter her from reaching it.

When her family realized just how important this was to her, and they saw her emerge from the initial detox fully happy, healthy and thriving, they had a change of heart and from that day on, fully supported her choices fully. She lived happily ever after (with a hot prince named Eric.)

So, Which Disney Princess are You?
Was there one story that particularly touched your heart today? :) I think I'm mostly a Cinderella. What about you?

If you're not on the raw vegan diet and are not interested in it, that's okay too. These princesses all share a similar story of reaching a certain goal and we all have our own goals. I'd still love for you to tell me if there's one princess whose attitude and story parallels your own!

I only had the time and space to tell 4 princess stories today, so feel free to add Jasmine, Snow White and any other general fairy tale princess stories to the mix if you feel inclined.

Oh, and men, if you answer this one, you get extra points for bravery and sportsmanship.

I think I am Aurora and Jeff is Belle. He is the one holding me back right now because he does not believe that it is necessary or healthful to be 100% raw/fruitarian. He is a type O, so maybe he's right that HE needs meat and cooked foods, but I am an A and was thriving on raw. It's just so darn hard to not eat the food I cook for the rest of the family. I have enough watermelon in the kitchen right now that if I don't eat it, it will be wasted. Hoping that the impetus of not wasting food will keep me choosing watermelon instead of the food I cook them. I am also only cooking them homemade whole wheat breadstuffs, rice, and beans. They think beans on tortillas is the best and would eat it everyday but Friday. Friday is pizza day.

My kids are Jasmine. Jasmine was a princess who had everything at her fingertips-- fruit trees and gardens, all she had to do was reach out and take it. But she wasn't happy with what her life had to offer. She wanted the stuff that appeared more enticing, more exciting, the stuff outside the walls. So she kept sneaking out the walls, to get her hands on the "good stuff" out there. She was not happier and healthier, but she still wanted the stuff outside. Tasting it had only made her more discontent with what she had inside. In the end a genie teaches them a little about how to love what they have instead of wanting more, but it's been so long since I saw the story I'm not sure how it will end. Will the kids ever come inside for the good stuff they have? Or will they keep sneaking out for what they think looks better?

Since I'm a mainstream diet, I'll juts pop by to say that this was a highly entertaining read and that I can totally relate to the TEDIOUSNESS of watching those movies again, and again. I have 2 girls. :)

Definitely Cinderella. The first time I heard about it-of course, I had already transitioned to vegan-I knew it was for me. Convincing the rest of the world that, not only is it for me, but it's for everybody and everyone should join me in my fairytale orchard is my happy ending.

You bring back so many memories of my son when he was younger. For us it was the movie Babe-non-stop! We watched it at least 10 times a day. You'll actually look back at this time with such fondness (but, whew, thank goodness it's over).

You are so stinkin funny! For today's question I think I'm more like Aurora.

awww I love this post! You're too cute haha I'm definitely Belle. Pretty feisty..hahah

I'm Belle, most definitely. When I first heard of the diet I thought only a nutcase would even try it. But I couldn't get it out of my mind and kept doing research until I felt comfortable enough to give it a go.

Very entertaining post.

Ariel, my love, my sweet, how are you this morning? I brought you some luscious fruit. What's this? Why, this is honey dew melon! Try some, my love, try some ... mmm, yes, it is rather tasty isn't it. And yes, it's good for me, too. I'm so glad you have your voice back. I can't tell you how lovely you sound now that you've taken to eating a wide assortment of ripe fruit. Oh yes, you are looking so much better these days. I can't wait to walk with you through the mango grove when you get your strength back ... Oh, I love you, too, baby, I love you, too!

Hi Sarah,

I'd have to say I'm Belle, as I love to research, but like Vered, I'm on a mainstream diet too.

I'm reading more and more about the raw food diets and they do make me curious, but not enough to join the ranks, YET.

BTW: Thanks for dropping by my blog and leaving a comment. I truly appreciate it.

You are so beautiful and sooooooooo funny. I check your site every single day - it gives me such a lift and inspires me to stay raw. In answer to your question: I am totally Cinderella.

Cool post! I like how you made up this Disney princess' personality to match the type of fruitarian different people are. I think for me, I'm definitely a Belle. I'm still not there yet, but I strive for breakfast & lunch to be raw. BTW, I'm on chapter 1 of 80/10/10 diet book. I'll loan you the T-Tapp dry brushing DVD if you PM me your address through Sonlight, or email me at john_yinfern@yahoo.com

I SO adore your posts! I think I'm Ariel with a bit of Belle. :) I have Ariel's family, but Belle's personality.

You are too funny!!! I am feeling a connection with Cinderella. With that said, I think I will sing and dance around the kitchen while making my smoothie. Ya know, twirl around with the blender and make my glass dance on the counter. Something to that effect :)

Have an awesome day.

I'm mostly Cinderella with a little Belle thrown in. I knew this lifestyle was for me from the moment I heard about it. I was intrigued and amazed and ready to work for that goal no matter what others around me thought. The Belle side of me put hours and hours into research, so that I made sure I knew exactly what I was jumping into.

Sarah said...

Thanks for your responses, guys! I have some things to add to what you each said, but I have to run right now. I'll be back later to respond!

I thought definitely Cinderella when I read that, but then definitely Ariel! I didn't jump in blindly, but wasn't antagonistic either, but toss in a little Belle for good measure.
My kids also loved this post. My daughter says she's Belle (which goes with the "Don't give me fruit!" comments she frequently has.) (Our movie lately is Bratz babies. I don't even pretend to watch with her.)
My son wants the extra points for bravery. He wants to be the male version of Aurora with a tiny bit of Ariel. Actually, he has lots of detoxing to do, so I agree that the description of Ariel is mostly apt for him (except I'm encouraging him!)

This is hilarious, I love it! For now I have a boy and have to sit through "Cars", five-hundred and fifty times, ugh!

I think I'm Cinderella too.

Um....awkward? lol I guess since we're going with Disney themes, I would be....um.....King Triton! :D

I'm a Cinderella. Though I was the one who turned my Prince onto Raw, he has inevitably been the one to support me, as I've not been able to be consistent. But with each try it gets better, and I know that it is the right way for me eat. I love your posts, what a terrific writer and storyteller. Thanks for brightening my day Sarah. BTW HiHoRosie was the one who pointed me in your direction, so glad she did!

Amy, you are so right on with your Jasmine interpretation. I couldn't have said it better! :D

Vered, I'm just finding this girl-movie thing out - because the movies that my boys are addicted to, I make them watch with my DH. You know, the sci-fi superhero stuff.

Via, Babe was my little sister's no. 1 favorite movie of all time. She must have watched it a million times, too. It's a great movie! At least the first 10 times.

Heidi, I can see you as a Sleeping Beauty with your DH as the knight in shining armor. So cute!

Sandy, not surprised to hear you're a Belle :D

Jennifer C, it's hard to argue after you start researching right? :)

Chris, def extra points! What a story, too.

Barbara, thanks for visiting! Hang on to that "Yet"... for a little while. Keep in touch!

Rawvegandelsur - thank you for your kind words! They encourage ME and lift me up!

Yin Fern - did you ever get my email? I did email my address to your yahoo address. Lemme know if you didn't get it!

Rawbliss, thank you! It must be difficult to be a Belle with Ariel's family, so kudos to you!

Martin, you get your extra points for jumping in even if you used a non princess character. Hehe :) And did the dog really eat fruit or are you joking, 'cos I haven't seen that movie in awhile. I have it though...

Exotic, you totally sound like a Cinderella kinda gal! You had me laughing at the twirls and singing.

Sarah, you're definitely the researcher type, I can totally tell!

Michele, I'm totally tickled that you shared this with your kids and they liked it!!! Thank you for that, it made my day.

Ecodea, we went through a Cars phase here, too. It's a little too fast moving for me, makes me dizzy. LOL!

Sam, I think we'll have to do a crossover and put you in Sleeping Beauty to rescue your Aurora wife. :)

Annie, thanks for visiting. I'm so glad you enjoyed this post! I find it really neat that you turned your prince to it and now he's helping you through it. That is so sweet!

Martin said...

just joking, he was a pasta eating dog

You are so very clever! I love it!
I'm probably a Belle but I need to research that more. ;)

Connie said...

I am slowly but surely catching up on your blog. I am definitely Ariel, though I never found Prince Eric and have stopped looking! lol! I will have the girls read this and see how they see themselves. This was fun. :)

Tasha says she is Aurora, waiting for that raw vegan prince.

Suzanne is Belle, finally becoming convinced that this is the direction for her.

I think Christopher is Shrek. He knows who he is and does not try to be anything else or expect anyone else to be like him.

ROFL

You are brilliant and oh, so clever! Your versions of the stories are so much more empowering than the girl waiting to be rescued by the prince.
