Blood Test Results, or, more than you ever wanted to know about me.

On August 9 this year, after 7 months on a high fruit/low fat diet, I took some tests for insurance purposes. I asked for the results back and I got them a few weeks ago. I've been meaning to post about them for awhile but just haven't had the time until now.

I thought I'd simply post the results as they are, for those who are interested.

I will post the item analyzed, then my results and whether or not they were in the normal or abnormal category, followed by the usual clinical range.

If you need details about each item, click here, or use Google. :)
-----------------------------------
Flex Blood Test

Glucose - 61, normal. (60 - 125)
(Hmm, you'd think that a person eating sooooo much sweet fruit would have abnormally high blood glucose!) :)

Fructosamine - 1.8, normal. (.5 - 2.0)

Blood Urea Nitrogen - 6, abnormal. (7 - 22)
(Click here to read about the BUN test)

Creatinine - 0.9, normal. (0.6 - 1.3)

**Alkaline Phosphatase - 60, normal. (30 - 125)

Bilirubin Total - 0.4, normal. (0.2 - 1.2)

**AST (SGOT) - 20, normal. (0 - 33)

**ALT (SGPT) - 17, normal. (0 - 45)

**GGT (GGTP) - 11, normal. (0 - 45)

Total Protein - 7.3, normal. (6.1 - 8.2)
(For those of you who wonder if I'm getting enough protein). :)

Albumin - 4.1, normal. (3.6 - 5.5)

Cholesterol - 138 L, abnormal. (140 - 199)
(Oh no!!! I have low cholesterol! Must. Eat. More. Steak.) Hehehe

Triglycerides - 124, normal. (0 - 150)

**Starred items are protein enzymes - high levels indicate a number of diseases.
------------------------------------

I also did a Urinalysis that day.
I tested negative for glucose, leukocytes and hemoglobins. My protein levels were 7, normal range is 0-30. All results were within normal limits and good news, I'm not a drug abuser. Basically, perfect pee. Heeee. :)

Also, my BMI was 19.7, blood pressure is 100/60 and resting pulse rate is 52.

I hope this helps anybody out there who's worried or doubtful about a low fat raw vegan diet being a healthy or sustainable lifestyle. In a couple of years I may do a more comprehensive blood test if I'm curious enough. Obviously, blood tests aren't everything, especially when you consider that what they consider normal range is based on people living on the Standard American Diet, so it's difficult to compare. But I was very pleased with my results, it indicated that I'm doing the right things, and it certainly increases my confidence about what I'm doing.

Thanks for sharing Sarah! In that light I took my PH yesterday (urine PH. I had bought the strips awhile back and hadn't used them). I was a perfect 7.0! (neutral) That was a definite nice thing to see.
It is heartening to read your post and see how well your body is doing on low fat rawv.
Thanks again,

Incredible!!! Reading your blog makes me know that this is possible!
I did want to ask you if all the fruit you eat is organic???? I know organic is the way to go, but does everything need to be organic? Its very expensive in my area!

Thanks guys!

Laura, nope, not all organic. Organic only when it a) looks good and b) is affordable.

I'd say...maybe 30% organic? :)

I do like my celery and lettuces to b e organic because I notice a taste in difference. Also, apples and grapes, again because of taste. But it's not a huge concern of mine.

Awesome results Sarah! Thanks for sharing. Two weeks into my last long raw stint I got my cholesterol checked and it was 123! The last reading had been 7 months earlier and was well over 200. Pretty neato what raw can do. Anyway, thanks for the comment! I am near Austin. I left you a message in your rawfoodsupport email. I love your blog!

Hello! Came here via rawfoodsupport.com. *looks around* does your husband also eat a lot of raw? Just guessing from all the watermelons...

Sarah, how much did your test cost? I have been thinking of getting this done.

Jennie, I don't think we paid for it per se. We did it because we were making some changes in our life insurance policies. HTH
